TENPIN BOWLING
AMERICAN writer Benjamin Franklin coined the phrase ‘nothing is certain but death and taxes’ - but he forgot to include that Orange would finish third in State League tenpin bowling.
The State League tenpin competition has been running for three years and Orange again bowed out after the final for the third straight season on Sunday.
Gosford defeated the Warriors 73-41 on the Central Coast to set up a grand final meeting with Chester Hill, which leaves Orange in third yet again.
Top Orange bowler David Rosser admits the streak is becoming annoying but thinks the past season should be considered a success.
“It is obviously a little bit frustrating,” Rosser said.
“(But) I thought we’ve done pretty well for the level of bowler that we have in our team.”
Gosford outgunned Orange in every section of the final with the Tornadoes taking the points in singles, doubles, teams and total pinfall.
Rosser was Orange’s second-best performing bowler for the final, knocking down 2350 pins at an average of 213.6 pins per game.
He was eclipsed only by teenage sensation Keryn Delaney, who emerged on the State League scene for Orange this season.
Delaney just pipped Rosser by one pin but their tallies weren’t enough to help the Warriors to victory.
“For our guys, the scores were probably a little bit lower than we’d like,” Rosser said.
“We’ve been hitting a bit of a flat patch lately.
“It’s just something that happens in all sports.”
Simon Dickinson bowled the high game for the Orange team when he produced a score of 261 in his opening game of the teams section.
