WITH one round left in the President’s Cup the Aggies cannot make the semi-finals but they still have a clear goal - finish the season with a win.
The Charles Sturt University Orange students had a solid 57-0 victory over cross-town rivals Waratahs in their match on Saturday.
The win wasn’t enough to propel the students into the semi-finals but they were still happy with their performance.
“It was a nice to get a win for a change,” Aggies captain-coach Adam Meiklejohn said.
“The boys played well. Waratahs had a lot of leaguies but our guys didn’t change anything. Our line-out and scrum were really dominant and our backline was just too quick for them.”
Fullback Jack Ellis-Flynt and breakaway Chris Bailey scored two tries each for Aggies and the rest were shared around.
Aggies will take on sixth-placed Coolah in this Saturday’s final President’s Cup round.
The result will not affect where the students finish in the competition but that is not what’s important to them.
“Aggies haven’t lost their last game of the season for something like 10 years,” Meiklejohn said.
“The boys just rally well and want to send the senior boys out with a win. We want to do that again.”
Meiklejohn said while they may not make the semi-finals, it has been a good year for Aggies in the President’s Cup.
Their players numbers have been some of the highest they have had in several years and Meiklejohn hopes it can continue in 2010.
