ORANGE Emus Chicks finished off the regular season with a 31-14 win over CSU Bathurst, which will give them plenty of confidence ahead of their semi-final against Dubbo Rhinos in a fortnight.
Emus scored five tries in their comfortable win at Endeavour Oval on Saturday and will now have a week off before taking on minor premiers Rhinos in the major semi-final next Saturday.
Star fly-half Alana Thomas crossed for two tries and finished with an individual haul of 16 points after a tight opening 20 minutes.
Emus were able to take control of the game after this period, much to the delight of captain Amanda Ferguson.
“Once we settled down and started playing our own game the tries started to come,” Ferguson said.
The second-placed Emus now have the week off with the bye but they will continue with their training regime in the lead-up to the semi-final.
Rhinos and Emus have drawn two of their games this season, with the Chicks yet to beat their Dubbo rivals.
But Ferguson believes an Emus win is not out of the question next Saturday if they hold the ball and play to their strengths.
