NETBALL
LIFE Studios Westoil might be known for its prowess on the netball courts but that could change in a few years.
Three team members had babies in recent weeks taking the side’s collective brood to 12.
We could expect to see Westoil junior soccer and netball teams in around five years.
Sheryll Selwood, Jacky Lyden and Mardi Aplin all had babies in the last three weeks and, amazingly, they were back on the courts last weekend.
Jacky had her first child, a boy called Xavier on July 31.
Sheryll and Mardi were racing to see who would have their baby first.
“She beat me,” Mardi laughed.
Sheryll had her fourth son, Jock, on August 9, and on August 10 Mardi gave birth to her second child, a girl, Marley.
The girls love their netball so much they were back on the courts on August 16 to help Westoil to their 68-16 demolition of Robin Hood Fitness Perfection.
“I really wanted to play,” Jacky said.
“After nine months, I was over not doing anything. Plus I get to play with my sisters and my friends. I wouldn’t have gone out there if I didn’t feel up to it.”
“I loved it. I ran around like a headless chook I was so excited,” Sheryll added.
“I didn’t do much at all,” Aplin laughed.
The girls sought the approval of their team-mates before they took to the court and while the trio were thrilled to be playing again, there was one draw-back.
“We had to be prepared to look like Teletubbies,” Sheryll laughed.
The girls will need to play the next two games for Westoil for them to be eligible for the semi-finals should their side qualify.
