WITH snow predicted again today and sub-zero temperatures in the early mornings expected to continue to the end of the week, farmers are remaining vigilant.
Local farmers have been checking stock and handfeeding to minimise stock losses in the freezing conditions experienced over the last few days.
Emu Swamp farmer John Blunt said with lambing almost complete he had been fortunate to have escaped stock losses in the freezing temperatures..
“We have planted out trees for shelters for the stock in our paddocks and it has paid off for us,” he said.
“We are almost at the end of lambing and so far we haven’t lost one.
“We are handfeeding to try and warm them up a bit.”
This morning’s temperature was predicted as minus three rising to a maximum of five degrees with snow turning to rain
Tomorrow morning will be only slightly warmer starting out at minus two and rising to seven degrees.
On Thursday the minimum will be minus three with a maximum predicted of seven degrees with possible showers through to Friday.
This year Orange has experienced four snowfalls, the most in one season for more than two decades, although the falls haven’t shut schools or closed district roads.
