Club’s changing of the guard

THE Orange CYMS Junior Rugby League Club will enter a new era next month, with a number of experienced committee members not standing for re-election at the annual general meeting.

Five committee members, who each have over a decade of service to the club, are stepping down from their positions, leaving big voids to fill.

President Martin Power, treasurer Guy Ruddy, registrar Dianne Fishlock and committee members Mark and Annette Brown will finish up in the CYMS administration at the AGM, which will be held on September 23.

Power has spent 13 years on the committee, while Fishlock has served CYMS for 19 years, with some of the juniors playing when she first started now bringing their kids down to play with the green and golds.

The pair now feel it is time for others to take over.

“It is an extremely important time,” Fishlock said.

“In the past, this one’s left and that one’s left, but not in a group like us. We need people to step up now.

“We still love the football and the games and we want to see the club go well - but we need some other people to step in and we will have a slightly different direction in our lives as well.”

Power added: “I’ll still probably coach next year but it is time for other people to set up fields and do all of that.

“We just want some bodies because if they don’t, there will be no club.”

The pair say the administration of the junior club will be left in great order, so the new committee will take over in a strong position.

CYMS’ AGM will be held on September 23 at Kelly’s Hotel from 7.30pm.
