Swinglowe sounds sweet to Kidd

IT is guaranteed spirits will be high when Swinglowe heads to the barriers at the Golden West Race Club meeting at Orange’s Towac Park on Sunday.

This will be the mare’s second start back from a spell after she ran a solid fifth at Bathurst last Friday over 1110m.

Part-owner Reg Kidd said he’ll enjoy the races regardless of how Swinglowe finishes in the McCarron Cullinane Class 2 Handicap (1300m).

Kidd was recently re-elected to the Orange City Council.

“I would love to see that luck continue on the race track,” Kidd smiled.

“I love racing at home. I don’t care if we come first, second or last. It’s just a great day.”

Swinglowe is an Orange horse through and through after being bred by the part-owners, including Kidd.

Kidd was there for the birth of Swinglowe, who was out of Millie Merandah and by Swooping.

Since then Kidd and all the owners have been able to see her develop under the guidance of Orange trainer Alison Smith.

The seven-year-old has had 28 starts for two wins, seven seconds and five thirds.

Kidd said she does not have the ideal start to races but you can’t count her out.

“She always comes out slow and she takes a while to get into her stride,” Kidd said.

“Once she’s in her stride she runs well. Last week in Bathurst she was last and six lengths behind the last horse. Not the first horse, the last horse.

“She came around the straight and mowed ’em down to run a good fifth. There wasn’t much between first and fifth either.”

Sunday’s 1300m event is likely to be too short for Swinglowe but Kidd is confident she can still run a good race with jockey Michael Travers on board.

The Golden West Race Club meeting on Sunday at Orange’s Towac Park will include seven races, with the first starting at 1.20pm.
