ORANGE Ex-Services’ senior player Ali Baker says she is still coming to terms with her side’s loss on the weekend.
Ex-Services went down 2-0 to Bathurst St Pat’s in Saturday’s women’s Premier League Hockey preliminary major semi-final.
It was only the second time this season the Orange side has been held scoreless.
The first time was just three weeks ago when they lost their round 17 match 1-0 to Lithgow Panthers.
Baker said she was stunned by her side’s loss.
“We didn’t have much to say after the game,” Baker said.
“I was shattered. It was really hard because I didn’t think we played that bad.”
Ex-Services finished the regular season in third place behind St Pat’s.
They hadn’t been able to topple the Bathurst side this year but Baker was confident that would change in the semi-final encounter.
“I wasn’t too worried because I thought we had it,” she said.
“The first 20 minutes we were all over them. I think we had most of the possession.
“In the second half they came out firing and scored two good goals.”
The side will have training tomorrow night and Baker said the girls would come together, talk about their loss but then prepare for this weekend’s minor semi-final.
Ex-Services will come up against another Bathurst side, Souths, who downed Lithgow Panthers 2-1 in the elimination semi-final.
Souths have won both their encounters against Ex-Services this season but the Orange side will have plenty of motivation for this sudden-death clash.
“We’ve really got to use our opportunities and put them away,” Baker said.
“I think the home ground advantage will play a big part in the outcome of the game.”
Ex-Services will take on Souths at the Orange Hockey Centre this Saturday at 4pm.
