CALARE Public School has proven to have one of the top four primary girls’ hockey teams in the state.
The Orange school defeated St Andrew’s of Minto in yesterday’s NSW Primary Schools Sports Association knockout quarter-final 6-0.
This allowed Calare to move into the semi-finals which will be played in Lithgow later this month.
Calare dominated the first half and had an outstanding 5-0 lead at the break.
Maggie Gorham opened Calare’s scoring early in the game, which was played in Orange, and Emily Wright followed with the first of her two for the day.
Haley Butcherine added her name to the list of goal scorers before Wright bagged her second. Meaghan Kempson scored Calare’s fifth with minutes remaining in the opening period.
St Andrew’s lifted in the second half and their defence was excellent.
The Sydney team saved at least six attempts at goal from Calare penalty corners.
This defence restricted Calare to just one goal in the second half which was scored by Butcherine.
Calare will go to Lithgow on Monday, September 22 for the NSW PSSA semi-finals and final.
