DARRYN Marjoram’s bank manager can expect a visit soon as he will need to free up some money for a trip to Hong Kong next year after being selected in the over 40s men’s Australian veterans hockey team.

Marjoram shone for NSW in division one at the Australian Veterans Championships last week in Darwin, playing a major role in guiding his side to the final.

In a tense decider, Victoria eventually edged out NSW 6-5 in a penalty shootout after scores were locked at 1-all after extra-time.

Marjoram was disappointed about losing such a close final, one in which he scored for NSW.

But he was proud when named players’ player for NSW throughout the tournament and announced as a new Australian representative.

The national team will contest a tournament in Hong Kong next year and the Orange man is already planning the trip.

“I’ll have to re-draw the home loan again,” Marjoram said.

The left winger scored seven goals in as many games during the tournament, where Victoria was the only team NSW were unable to beat.

Victoria recorded an earlier 4-1 victory in their pool match but NSW lifted to make the final much closer.

NSW’s division two side were able to go one step further as they defeated Queensland 3-nil in their decider to take out the title.

And Orange once again played a big part in their success with Dave Watson voted players’ player for the tournament in the NSW division two outfit.

Watson played numerous roles for the NSW side during the tournament but still managed to slot an impressive 11 goals from 10 games.

He was overjoyed with his achievements and while Watson was reluctant to boast about how well he played, close friend Marjoram was not.

“He played the best I have ever seen him play,” he said.
