CYMS still winless despite solid performance

CYMS remain the only winless team in the men’s Premier League Hockey competition after a late goal gave Dubbo a 3-2 win over the Orange side on Saturday at the Orange Hockey Centre.

Both teams went into the clash without a win from the opening five rounds of the season.

But Dubbo’s win now leaves CYMS as the only side still searching for a victory, although they do not occupy last place as Parkes Redbacks, who are also anchored on four competition points, have an inferior goal difference.

CYMS were able to create a number of chances and they converted one in the 20th minute when Tobbie Muldoon struck off a short corner.

They were nearly able to carry that advantage into half-time but Dubbo equalised in the 33rd minute through Mike Lane.

Samuel Mould then gave Dubbo the lead in the 47th minute, meaning CYMS would have to come from behind if they were to secure their maiden win.

Their chances improved in the 63rd minute when Dubbo’s Phill Coffee was yellow carded and CYMS took full advantage of having an extra man, with Luke Eslick levelling the score at 2-all with six minutes remaining.

But Mould was able to strike again with just three minutes until full-time to give Dubbo the four competition points.

CYMS’ Clint Evans revealed his team is still confident a win is on the horizon as they are creating copious opportunities for themselves to score.

“It’s not getting frustrating,” Evans said. “It will come, we just have to be patient.

“Everyone played well, we created plenty of opportunities. It’s just that Dubbo created three opportunities and they put all three of them away.”

Orange counterparts Bloomfield were also on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline as they went down to competition leaders Lithgow Panthers at the Orange Hockey Centre on Saturday.

Goals to Darryn Marjoram and Stuart Milne saw Bloomfield come back from a 2-nil deficit to tie things up early in the second half.

But BJ Hemmy struck for the visitors with five minutes remaining to keep Panthers undefeated this season.

In other games, a hat-trick to Kel Cooke helped St Pat’s to a 6-1 win over Lithgow Zig Zag, while Souths beat Parkes Magpies 5-3 to replace them in second place, some eight competition points behind the runaway Panthers outfit.
