THE Orange CYMS first division side for tomorrow’s Group 10 final against Mudgee looks strong - but it is the presence of the 2007 Group 11 first grade top try scorer on the bench that shows their depth.
Adam Ford topped the Group 11 try scoring tally last year with Cabonne United and now finds himself on the bench for CYMS in tomorrow’s grand final qualifier in Mudgee after a season blighted by injury.
The minor premiers will also travel to Mudgee with the likes of Mitch McCabe, Luke Morris, Kiel Vardanega and Tim Trudgett, who have all spent considerable time in premier league over the past couple of seasons.
“The side we have, we should win,” CYMS captain-coach Asa Amone said.
But working against CYMS is the fact they are playing the Dragons in Mudgee on a day when they have a team playing for a spot in the grand final in all three grades.
“It will be hard with all three grades in the finals. They will be hard to beat but the boys are looking forward to it,” Amone said.
CYMS are coming off a 28-22 loss to Bathurst Panthers in the major semi-final after they squandered a 22-12 lead late in the game.
Amone laments the second-half fade, which cost them the first spot in the grand final, but believes his side will not let it happen again.
“They have been going alright except for last week when things fell apart in the last 15 minutes,” he said.
“We got in front 22-12 halfway through the second half and everybody thought it was all over.
“This week is different from last week and everyone is looking to make the grand final.”
