SOFTBALL
WELLINGTON cruised to victory in the Western Primary Schools Sports Association girls’ softball regional finals yesterday.
Wellington went through the regional matches without a loss in Orange and in the semi-finals defeated Orange Public School 36-11 and Forbes North 11-9.
Wellington were too good in the final, easily defeating Mudgee 25-4.
It was no surprise the school filled five of the 12 places in the Western side, which was selected from the regional finals and trials.
Wellington’s Candace Brien, Sara Darney, Erica Honeysett, Brittany Naden and Sharrira Thompson were all selected in the Western side to contest the NSW PSSA championships in Camden in September.
Joining them will be Bletchington’s Maddie Gogala and Kai Hemopo, Orange Public’s Rhiannon Lamb, Calare’s Meaghan Kempson, Cudgegong Valley’s Sam McGovern and Rachael Stait and Mudgee’s Ashley Sing.
Wellington will continue its state knockout campaign when they take on the North West regional winner in the coming weeks.
The Western side will be coached by Mick Boller at the NSW PSSA Championships from September 22-25.
