ORANGE’S Darren Morris helped NSW PCYC to a State of Origin victory when he won his bout in Brisbane on the weekend.

Morris was part of the NSW PCYC team that took on Queensland PCYC at Brisbane’s Chernside RSL on Saturday night.

The 18-year-old beat Brisbane’s Ian Auld with a technical knock out to continue his winning run.

Morris is unbeaten in his first four fights after only taking up the sport in May.

“It was amazing,” Morris said of the State of Origin.

“It was good because that’s the second year in a row NSW has won it.”

The Canobolas Rural Technology High School student has been training with Orange PCYC head trainer Bobby Williams and has been well supported by his family in his new sport.

Orange’s Glen Norton also stepped into the ring but lost a close bout to his Queensland opponent Adam Bell.

The Orange PCYC boys are expected to glove up again for a City versus Country fight night in Condobolin next month.

The mixed results continued for Orange boxers on the weekend in Canberra.

Mobsport Boxing’s Sam Ah-See and Nicole Parker both had bouts on Saturday night in the nation’s capital.

Parker stepped into the ring for the first time and had a solid 15-10 win over Canberra’s Sarah Delfino.

The 16-year-old put an eight-count on Delfino in the second round on her way to winning the bout.

“She was so good,” Mobsport head trainer Jake Kenney said of Parker.

“We’ve unearthed another Sam (Ah-See).”

Things didn’t go Ah-See’s way in Canberra, with the teenager going down to Nathan Wright in controversial circumstances.

The Orange boxer was leading 13-9 going into the last round but he scored one point and Wright was awarded five to tie the match.

They couldn’t be separated after a countback and it went down to a judges decision.

The judges awarded the match to Wright, much to the disappointment of Kenney.

“Sam had the worst decision go against him I have ever seen,” Kenney said.

“I’m proud of the way he took the result. He took it better than I did. He said the result will only make him stronger.”

Ah-See will need all his strength this weekend when he fights at the Australian trials for the Commonwealth Youth Games team.

He will be one of five state qualifiers to contest the 64kg division in the knockout competition.

The winner will represent Australia at the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in India in October.
