SOFTBALL
ORANGE was represented in all areas of the sport at the recent Softball Friendship Games.
Blacktown Stadium hosted the international competition earlier this month with teams coming from across Australia as well as New Zealand and America.
Orange’s Erin Little was part of the NSW Country under 18 side and was coached by Orange’s Grant Pickering.
The young team had three wins and three losses and drew 1-all with USA Blue in their final game of the tournament.
Pickering was pleased with his Country side and added that it was the strong, strategic batting that he placed on his team which contributed to their success.
Little, a year 12 student at Orange High, said the Friendship Games were a great experience, especially to be a part of an elite team.
Orange was also represented at the Games by umpires Peter Medbury and Craig Myers who performed well at the elite level.
The tournament was contested by NSW Metro, NSW Country, QLD Development, Australia Green, Australia Gold, ACT, USA Red, USA Blue, NZ Raw Sox and Sunstate.
In the grand final USA Red edged out NSW Metro 1-nil with the Americans scoring their winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
