NSW Blues coach Matthew Mott says it is imperative Australian cricket continues to foster talent in the bush as it has been such a rich breeding ground in the past.

Mott delivered a coaching and leadership seminar in Orange last night at the annual clinic for coaches at Kinross Wolaroi School.

And his sharing of wisdom will hopefully help produce the next batch of representative cricketers from the Central West.

It is crucial for coaches to boast the knowledge and possess the tools to instruct young players the right techniques to succeed at the game and Mott thinks that will help keep Australia at the top echelon of cricket world-wide.

“I think it’s very important,” Mott said of tutoring coaches in regional areas.

“Even at our level, state level, it’s great to get the information flow down from the Australian side and hopefully that flows all of the way down to the grassroots level and you get a consistent message that everyone’s thinking the same things and is on the same page.

“We sometimes live in a bit of a bubble there in Sydney and it’s great to just get out there. As it has been proven in Australian cricket, a lot of the best players have come from the bush.

“I think it’s important we maintain that link and make sure that we’re doing all of the right things.”

The 34-year-old is well on the way to a successful coaching career himself.

He guided NSW to a Pura Cup victory last season in his first year at the helm after taking over from now Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss, who also lectured at this clinic in Orange last year.

Mott also served as assistant coach to John Buchanan with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the revolutionary Indian Premier League.

Coaches from around the region have descended on Orange for the comprehensive coaching clinic that concludes on Sunday.
