Pauline walks the talk

SHE left the political arena gutted and disillusioned by the Australian politician system, but yesterday in Orange Pauline Hanson showed she still has the ability to turn heads.

The founder of the One Nation party, who was shopping with her partner Chris Callaghan, was easily recognised and acknowledged by many locals in the central business district.

Ms Hanson told the Central Western Daily although she felt shunned by the lack of support when she ran for the Senate last year. She remained passionate about Australia but has no intention of returning to political life.

“I am not an idiot or simple and all I wanted was some support and loyalty,” Ms Hanson said.

“I am just passionate, but we are largely apathetic about politics here in Australia.”

An emotional Ms Hanson told the CWD she has spent a great deal of time in rural NSW since relocating from Queensland. Her conclusion - the policies of governments are bringing farmers to their knees.

“They are losing heart and it isn’t any wonder.

“Young people don’t want to continue on the land where their parents have been for generations,” Ms Hanson said.

She said water rights and issues such as allowing pork imports appear to have little impact on Canberra’s politicians.

“Farmers should be paid to put dams in, not be watched and kept under surveillance.”

Ms Hanson said politicians on both sides of parliament are completely out of touch with the real impact fuel costs are having on pensioners, farmers and families.

“I bet if you took away their (politicians’) fuel cards and made them line up at the bowser and pay for their petrol it would be a different story,” she said.

She said she has major concerns for the future of the nation.

“We are being led like sheep to the slaughter on a whole range of issues.

“It is greed and the almighty dollar which is driving our political parties through the support of multi-nationals.”
