AT the height of winter the fear of imminent unemployment is all that gets a lot of people out of bed in the morning.
If this is you, spare a thought for the many Orange workers who have no one but themselves to blame if the work doesn’t get done.
Central West Water Proofing owner and operator Matthew Waters is one of around 200 people in Orange that runs their own business largely from their own homes.
“You’ve got to be a bit keen to get out there by yourself,” Mr Waters said.
“You need a bit more motivation and it can be a bit harder - you’ve got to motivate yourself but it gives you more control of your time and you can work around things as they come up.”
As part of NSW Home-Based Business Week, Mr Waters has been among hundreds of business owners in the region and across the state taking part in seminars and information sessions targeted at business owners like himself.
The seminars are a source of vital information according to the Central West Business Enterprise Centre executive officer Bruce Buchanan.
“Home-based business owners tend to be in more service-based businesses like graphic and web design or lawnmowing business,” he said.
“Because they don’t often get to network and talk with other people in their business they can feel like the Lone Ranger.”
As well as networking, information on accounting and other important survival skills have also been shared with the business operators.
