Believe it or not, the bill on a seniors’ art class in Orange runs into thousands of dollars every year.
It is not a problem, though. The resourceful residents of Wontama’s Clancy Weston Lodge have been holding an annual art auction to fund the activity.
Now in its third year, the Lodge’s Art Workshops have spilled to a full day’s activity, keeping the hands of art teacher Carolyn Russell covered in paint.
The longer the classes run, the higher the bill for equipment climbs, so the residents have invited the community back to the Clancy Weston Lodge this Saturday, May 17 for their next auction.
Recreational officer Sandra Brown says the residents will be out in their finery spruiking their wares for the good of the classes.
The weekly activity is a popular one with the residents.
“We’re showing off talent they didn’t think we had,” Daphne Fitzgerald said.
“They don’t have to drag us down here or anything.”
The walls of Clancy Weston Lodge are already filling up with the artworks. This year the patchworkers have also contributed some blankets, too.
The auction will begin from 7.30pm next Saturday. The community is invited to sample local wine while they consider which pieces might look good back at their place.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
