COUNCILLOR Jeremy Buckingham and Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange (ECCO) president Neil Jones hope to spearhead an “all-out Greens assault” on Orange City Council after announcing plans to contest upcoming council elections on a joint ticket.
Cr Buckingham and Mr Jones sought a change in leadership and better governance standards after officially launching The Greens’ campaign for the September 13 elections on Friday morning.
“We’re not ruling out taking on leadership positions in any new council,” Cr Buckingham said.
“The maths is that we need to attract twelve to fifteen percent of the vote in order to get Neil and I elected. It’s a big task but I’m confident we can do it because people recognise Greens are good councillors.”
Cr Buckingham said Neil Jones, who has attracted a high profile in recent years because of his positions on many controversial environmental issues, was a “fantastic candidate”.
However despite glowing praises from Cr Buckingham and Mr Jones, the pair gave assurances they would vote individually on issues if a disagreement arose.
Health care worker Helen Isbester and occupational therapist Yvette Black make up the balance of the Greens’ ticket.
