IT’S going to be a mad dash when it happens.
Former Canobolas Rural Technology High School student, Thomas Pollard and scores of other high school students from around the city and the State will find out which, if any, universities have accepted their applications on Thursday.
The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) will release its main round offers online at 9pm.
Late round offers will be made at 9pm on January 31 with final round offers also e-released on February 7.
It won't leave much time for goodbyes once the offers arrive.
Thomas has already received a teaching scholarship that will allow him to take a teaching degree combined with a bachelor of science, meaning his tertiary education will not be the financial struggle it is for many students.
If accepted in the first round of offers, Thomas will have to be in Wagga Wagga by February 11 if he wants to take part in the all important orientation, or O-Week.
This will mean hasty goodbyes to his friends and family, explaining to his boss that his departure is imminent and a last minute scramble to find somewhere to live.
After performing well in his HSC, Thomas' goal was to become a teacher and hopefully utilise some of his skills in maths, science and information technology in the process.
“I am pretty confident,” he said.
“I'm hoping I get into Wagga because it's the most convenient for me.”
He said first and foremost he was hoping for Wagga Wagga but any offer from a university outside of Sydney would be more than acceptable.
“I don't want to have to go to Sydney,” Thomas said.
“Mainly because it will cost too much.”
Universities offers through UAC can be checked at www.uac.edu.au from 9pm, Thursday, January 17.
